The Boat Assisted Kayak Eco Tour is the most comprehensive single-day Everglades experience we offer — combining a power boat tour, a sea kayak tour, and a walking tour into one extraordinary adventure. It begins with a Florida Master Naturalist led dolphin and birding boat tour through the marine ecosystem of Everglades National Park’s 10,000 Islands.
On board are six very stable, comfortable kayaks. Once the boat reaches a remote destination — often a pristine barrier island beach visited by very few others — you deploy the kayaks for an intimate, close-up exploration of the mangrove edges and shallow tidal flats that the power boat simply cannot access.
The walking portion takes you along barrier island wrack lines, tidal pools, dunes, and mangrove edges where you may encounter dozens of invertebrate species, rare shells, stingrays, small sharks, and the incredible diversity of life that calls these protected islands home. Artifacts from cultures that inhabited these islands thousands of years ago are sometimes found along the way.
Many guests combine this afternoon tour with a morning Mangrove Tunnel Kayak tour for a full-day, two-ecosystem Everglades immersion. Alligators in the morning. Dolphins in the afternoon. Do not forget your camera.
The Everglades is one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in North America. Here is what guests regularly encounter on our kayak tours:
